Since 1982, Shakespeare & Company has sent touring productions of Shakespeare’s plays, along with a variety of related workshops, into middle and high schools, colleges, large-scale performance venues, and community centers all over the Northeast and beyond. These performances reach more than 20,000 students, teachers, and audience members each year.

A whirlwind tour through the life, times, and works of William Shakespeare, led by six actors equipped with six stools, a couple of broadswords, a bit of historical information and scenes from many of his greatest plays. This energetic, fast-paced peek into Shakespeare’s world and Elizabethan life was created by Kevin G. Coleman, Director of Education. It is a fun, accessible introduction to Shakespeare with enough depth to please students who have already studied his works. This 45 minute presentation comes with accompanying workshops in performance.

These fun and inspiring 1-, 2- and 3-week summer theater programs introduce students ages 6 to 17 to Shakespeare's language, his stories, characters, and themes using imaginative and playful methods. Riotous Company is a more advanced 3-week program for high school students.

For the past 8 years, Dorset Theatre Festival has provided opportunities for regional middle and high school students to learn about playwriting and create a play of their own. The program allows participating young playwrights a hands-on experience working not only with professional theatre educators, but also professional playwrights and up-and-coming playwrights from top masters degree programs around the country. Using the art of dramatic writing, the program seeks to engage students’ imaginations, broaden their means of expression, foster a sense of community, and increase their sense of self worth, literacy skills, and appreciation for the arts.
